XML export to browser

I have set up the XML export on a blank page. When I 'run' the page the XML export creates an Export.xml file which I am forced to save locally to view. This is despite having selected 'Export Method: In browser' from the options of the XML export setup.
Am I doing something wrong? How do I get the export to create a file that is saved to the server and can be viewed directly in the browser without having to save the file locally first?
